The Greater Meredith Program - Preserve the Past - Promote the Present - Plan the Future

A public/private partnership between
The Greater Meredith Program and the
Inter-Lakes School District

The career partnership program is an opportunity for students to make connections with local businesses to give them exposure to future careers.   The experience provides a variety of educational and experiential learning opportunities and the chance to gain real-world skills.

The program is a collaborative effort among our business community, local educators, various civic organizations and the municipality and is funded through the Greater Meredith Program, the Interlakes School District and the generous donations of local organizations and businesses.

What's the difference between a job shadow and an internship?
  • A job shadow is a short-term (usually one day), snapshot of a career.  Students follow and observe for a day in the life of a local professional.  The purpose of this experience is to expose students to various career opportunities.
  • An internship is a long-term unpaid experience, i.e. semester.  In an internship, a student learns the many facets and faces of the business to gain relevant knowledge and experience in a job field that interests them.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?
  • Speak to a high school class about your profession
  • Offer to host a student for a one-day job shadow
  • Offer to host a student for an internship
  • Offer to host a volunteering student at your non-profit organization
  • Promote your business in Summer Employment Days in the spring at the high school
  • Become a Sponsor of the Career Partnership Program

A handmade wooden strip canoe was the grand prize in a raffle this summer that raised over $4,400 to support the Career Partnership Program.
The canoe, dubbed “Wee Lassie”, is a single person, undecked double-paddle canoe built by Greater Meredith Program Board member, Bill Vecchio, of Twin Mountain. It is modeled after a design from the late 1800s in the Adirondacks by a canoe builder named J. Henry Rushton.

The drawing was held on September 19th at the Meredith Bay Regetta at Hesky Park.  The lucky winner was Greg Chasse of Meredith.
